Myer (or Meyer) Prinstein (born Mejer Prinsztejn, December 22, 1878 – March 10, 1925) was a Polish American track and field athlete and member of the Irish American Athletic Club. He held the world record for the long jump and won gold medals in three Olympic Games for the long jump and triple jump.
==Early life==
Prinstein was Jewish and was born in Szczuczyn, in Russian-ruled Poland.〔Paul Taylor, (Jews and the Olympic Games: The Clash Between Sport and Politics ), Sussex Academic Press, 2004, ISBN 1903900883, pp. 239-40〕 His parents, Jacob and Julia Prinstein (born Jankiel Prinsztejn and Judes Rubinsztejn),〔Szczuczyn Marriage Register 1870〕 emigrated to New York City in 1883 and soon thereafter moved to Syracuse, New York, where Myer was raised. They had five daughters and four sons; Jacob was a grocer and baker. Myer was the third child.
Prinstein was captain of the Syracuse University track team, and graduated with a law degree.
